Ahead of the July 16 Osun governorship election, hotel accommodations in Osogbo, the state capital, have been fully booked, with little or no space available. most of the rooms in several hotels were already booked by political party officials, NGOs, government officials and key actors participating in the election. After being overlooked by the Nigeria Football Federation for the Super Eagles job, Portuguese tactician Rui Vitoria has been appointed the new national team coach of Egypt on a four-year contract. The Egyptian Football Association named Vitoria as the new coach of the Pharaohs on Monday night to replace Ehab Galal who was sacked a few weeks ago. Vitoria was among the coaches lined up for the Super Eagles job following the sack of Gernot Rohr in December, before the NFF appointed his countryman Jose Peseiro.

Thousands of anti-government protesters stormed into Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe office today hours after he was named as acting President, witnesses said. Men and women breached military defences and entered the premier’s office to raise national flags, witnesses told newsmen after police and troops failed to hold back crowds despite firing tear gas and water cannon. Sri Lanka PM tells military and police to ‘restore order’ in a televised statement. SENATOR Ben Ayade, the Cross River State governor has been adopted to take over the Senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Northern Senatorial District of the state. The party is scheduled to conduct a primary for his formal adoption tomorrow at the Ogoja, headquarters of the district to handover the ticket to the governor. A group, Organization for Global Youths Peace Empowerment and Development Initiative, has said the choice of running mates by the presidential candidates of the APC, and PDP, Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, has paved the way for Peter Obi’s victory. In a statement by its National Coordinator, Mr. Japhet Omene, the group questioned why Atiku didn’t accept the recommendation of PDP committee set up to choose a running mate. The gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway got worse as travellers returning from the Sallah celebration were trapped in traffic that lasted many hours. Both sides of the expressway at Longbridge and Magboro, Ogun State, were blocked and vehicular movement was at a standstill after impatient motorists and commercial drivers drove against traffic. the traffic snarl at Berger, Lagos State, spread to inner roads, including Ogba, Alausa, and Ojodu areas of the state. The traffic on the expressway resurfaced recently after the resumption of construction works at the Otedola/Secretariat end of the road.
