A total of 164 people have so far died of Lassa fever in Nigeria in 2022. The latest Lassa fever situation report for week 29, obtained from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control showed that there are 857 confirmed cases of the disease in the country. The confirmed cases are said to be distributed across 24 states and 99 local government areas in the country. The report also noted that 54 healthcare workers had been infected with the disease. The NCDC also confirmed a total of 5,890 suspected cases in 2022.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has linked the spate of insecurity in the country to financial leakages. According to him, criminals are still in business of the money getting into their hands. The Minister added that insecurity would drastically reduce when the sources of their finances are blocked.

More than 91 million Africans live with Hepatitis B or C, which are the deadliest strains of the virus, according to a World Health Organization scorecard. The Viral Hepatitis Scorecard 2021 looks at data from the African region but focuses on Hepatitis B and C, both of which cause liver cirrhosis and cancer. It found that in 19 countries, more than eight percent of the population is infected with Hepatitis B, while in 18 countries, more than one percent of the population lives with Hepatitis C. Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has declared tomorrow Friday, July 29, 2022, work-free for civil servants in the state to enable them to register to vote in the next general election.
