A cargo plane which crashed in northern Greece was carrying 11 tonnes of weapons – including landmines – to Bangladesh, officials say. People living within two kilometres of the site where the Antonov-12 came down have been warned to stay indoors. A car bomb explosion has caused massive destruction to a hotel in the Somali town of Jowhar, close to the capital, Mogadishu. Reports say a car loaded with explosives was driven to the entrance of the Nuur Doob Hotel. At least four politicians from the regional administration, who were staying at the hotel, were hurt. The Islamist militant group al-Shabab says it carried out the attack.

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has said the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the state will respond to the result of Saturday’s governorship poll after studying it. This was contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ismail Omipidan, in Osogbo Adeleke was returned elected after defeating his closest challenger, Oyetola, and 13 other candidates, scoring a total of 403,371. Oyetola got 375,027 votes and won in 13 local government areas of the state to come second in the election.

Officers of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on election monitoring duties have arrested three persons suspected of buying votes in the Osun State governorship election. The suspects were identified as Dapo Oloyede , Kamorudeen Nafisat and Ojuade Olaniyi. A statement by the ICPC spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, disclosed that Oloyede was arrested at the Ife North Local Government, Nafisat and Olaniyi were nabbed at Egbedore local government. She added that a popular thug attacked and injured the team leader of the ICPC to help a suspect escape in the Obokun local government area of the state.
